We are always looking for ways to improve our grooming game. But there are some of you just starting on a journey towards improving your style or grooming.
This is why we are here to share our finds of some of the best advice for the “everyday man.” Some of these tips may seem basic, but trust me there are a lot of guys that either do not know or do not take the time to do the work. How do I know? Because I use to be one of those guys that didn’t take the time to take better care of myself including my hair (when I had hair) or skin.
Our friend, Jose Zuniga, at Teaching Men’s Fashion on YouTube, put together another incredible video highlighting some his favorite grooming secrets.
We decided to break down these grooming tips and give our own insight as well.
This seems like a basic idea but there are a lot of guys that do not take care of their hands or more specifically their nails. This doesn’t mean you have to get manicures every week. I routinely get a manicure every few weeks, but maintain my own nails in between. You would also be shocked how much thoroughly washing your hands (including under your nails) can improve the appearance of your hands and prevent sickness. Another important detail is to moisturize your hands after washing them.
Like your hands, it is not enough to just wash your face. Your face is always exposed to the harsh elements of our daily lives. Specifically during the Winter season, your skin needs even more moisture. There are tons of men specific moisturizers for the face. My formula for taking care of my face includes a face wash, a toner (witch hazel) and a moisturizer.
As I have gotten older, I have noticed more hair growing in areas where hair didn’t grow as much before. TMI, I know. I don’t believe in over plucking your eyebrows, but (like in the video) I will trim the hair between my eyes and nose hairs. If you do this on a regular basis, it can enhance your look and might make you look younger/refreshed.
It is important to know that the skin on your face compared to the skin on the rest of your body is highly more sensitive. This is why they have separate face washes. But there are a lot of people that think all skin is created equal. I stay away from bar soap in general and use body washes because bar soap is known to be more drying to the skin. So you can imagine what it will do to your face. It is important to have some sort of face regimen for your face.
I will take this a little more further than Jose does in his video. Your body gives off a language and people are susceptible to that language. If your body is slumped over or your face has a perpetual frown, people will not gravitate towards you. Sometimes I have to remind myself of this because sometimes we do this without even thinking. Smile and stand up straight and you will be surprised what you will attract in your life.
Jose recommends an eye serum, but I would also add make sure you are getting the right amount of sleep for your body. Sleep helps to prevent aging, bags and helps with those gains you want at the gym. Cold compresses on your eyes is a more natural remedy for dark circles and treat the real cause.
