As you know, I don’t consider myself a fashion expert. However, I am just like you looking for different ways to enhance my style.
As I find tips and tricks, I like to share those finds with our Kempire Daily readers. Thank God for YouTube because there are tons of tips for guys that have no idea what they are doing when it comes to fashion.
One of the biggest issues I have been having lately is finding the right socks for my different outfits during the work week. Now that the colder months are upon us, I can’t get away with wearing no-show socks or no socks at all. Side bar: I am not an advocate for not wearing any socks at all. This is uncomfortable for me and can cause odor in your shoes. But that is a whole other post for another time.
You no longer have to wear just plain black and brown socks with your outfits. There are a lot of brands that offer different styles that can spice up your sock life. Are you about that sock life? You are about to be! If you follow me on Instagram (TheKempire/KempireDaily) or Twitter, you may have noticed that I am a subscriber Gentleman’s Box and Sprezza Box services. In my first month of having Sprezza Box they sent me a pair of their brand name socks and it changed my life.
First off, it was one of the first times I was going to try a pattern on my socks (polka dots). But the socks also felt great. Who knew socks could feel this good!? This is why it is important to take risks and try things, especially in your fashion.
Well, Jose from Teaching Men’s Fashion on YouTube also has some great tips for guys trying to find the right socks to enhance their look.
1. Contrast your trousers with a different color sock.
This doesn’t mean go crazy with the neon greens or yellows guys. It means taking a risk beyond the normal matching your trousers with the socks. In order to be safe, Jose recommends that you match one of the colors in your socks to your trousers.
2. Pick a pattern that is for grown up. No novelty socks.
I won’t lie and tell you that I don’t love to see some of the creative patterns and cartoon characters that they make for men now. I do. However, I work in a business setting and if I cross my legs, I don’t need Superman staring at one of my clients. In general, these types of socks have a place and time and that usually include Saturday morning cartoons.
3. Show the right amount of ankle.
I recently had a bunch of my pants tailored because they were entirely too long. What is the point of getting interesting socks if no one will ever see them? But you also do not want to have your pants tailored too high either. In order to ensure I had the right amount of space that highlight my socks, I brought a pair of dress shoes to the tailor with me. I suggest that you do the same because the height and/or look of your casual sneakers won’t give you the correct perspective.
